Beauty
in utility.
Everyday industrial objects have a beauty rooted in purpose.
A shipping container is a highly refined design. Its proportions, structure, and connections answer a clear brief: carry, stack, move. At MK2, that directness is our starting point for architecture.
We express materials rather than disguise them. Steel, plywood, and tile bring their own character. Considered proportions and careful details elevate what is already there.
Our approachExpress the material.
Let materials be themselves.
Elevate their character, don't conceal it.
Make each part count.
One element, several purposes.
More resolved with fewer parts.
Make it clear.
What it is. How it works.
How it fits together.
Do more.
Use less.
Good design brings several needs together in one clear solution.
01Find the shared solution.
A roof can shelter a building, shade its openings, and define an outdoor room. We look for elements that solve several problems at once, making structure, space, and everyday use work together.
02Show how it works.
A building should communicate how it is made. Its structure, joints, and meeting of materials reveal what each part does and how the whole fits together. Construction becomes part of the architecture's expression.
03Remove the unnecessary.
We question each layer, finish, and component. If it adds no useful function or quality to the space, we leave it out. Simplicity comes from resolving the design, until what remains is clear and purposeful.
Make one yours.
